So I feel that if I'm going to write a blog during this process, it's only fair you get all the details, so here goes...
We weren't trying to have a baby, but we weren't exactly not trying either. I have been off the pill for YEARS because my mom had estrogen-positive breast cancer and my doctor said that if a baby was an okay consequence, going off the pill would be for the best. Married, own a house, solid finances...yeah, a baby wouldn't be a bad thing, so no more pills for me. When nothing ever came of it, we just figured that there was something wrong with one and/or both of us and we would worry about it when we decided it was time.
Flash forward to 2010 and the year of getting healthy. I dropped about 30 lbs in 8 months and Thomas did about the same. We were on our way to healthy and off to a great start...apparently, that was all it took for everything to fall in place.
I had stayed home from work for a few days with a coughing, aching, feverish, how much Robitussin can you get down sickness and on top of that was having pretty rough cramps. I didn't think much of the cramps - I'd had them for about a week and Mother Nature was due any day. In fact, she was past due, but I've had irregular periods, so I wasn't too concerned. However, when I ran out to grab lunch, something told me to pick up a pregnancy test as well.
I've taken lots of pregnancy tests (no pill, irregular periods, I mean, seriously, I should have bought stock), but always the same result...until December 3. I sat there watching the test and had a minor panic attack when I thought I saw two lines. Reprieve, just a shadow. So I closed my eyes and waited the three prescribed minutes. Holy crap...that's not a shadow...that's two pink lines. Thomas is still at work, what to do? Laugh? Panic? Cry? Celebrate? All of the above? Yes please. I called Thomas and told him I saw two pink lines. Here's hoping that he wasn't at the wheel when he took that call.
So it turns out that as soon as you see two lines, you get instant morning sickness. It was a rough few weeks (for me and those around me!), but it's much better now.
We've done the doctor thing and I'm now 10 weeks pregnant and feeling really good. I had a sonogram and heard the heartbeat. Thank goodness Jessica was there with me because as the technician was taking measurements, she accidentally labeled one of my ovaries as Twin B. Even better news that it was Ovary B because Jess said she saw four dots on that screen...I think I'll pass on being quad-mom.
So check back in from time to time for updates because coming Summer 2011 (supposedly July 31) will be Baby Kamas!
